Thamil Cultural Society of British Columbia - TCSBC - பிரிட்டிஷ் கொலம்பியா தமிழ் கலாச்சாரச் சங்கம் Thamil Cultural Society of British Columbia (TCSBC) is a long-standing, community-focused non-profit organization dedicated to preserving, promoting, and celebrating Tamil (Thamil) language, culture, and heritage in the Canadian province of British Columbia. It was founded in 1994 by Tamil residents of BC to address both cultural and settlement needs of Tamil-speaking people and their families living in the province. Mission and Purpose The Society’s core mission is to bring together Tamils living in British Columbia regardless of their country of origin (such as India, Sri Lanka, Malaysia, Singapore, Fiji, Mauritius, South Africa, Guyana, or the Caribbean) through their shared cultural heritage and to support their successful participation in multicultural Canadian society . As a non-political, volunteer-based, and democratically governed organization incorporated under the Society Act of British Columbia , TCSBC works to: Preserve and promote Tamil language and culture within the community and the broader public. Facilitate cultural awareness and intercultural understanding through events, programs, and celebrations. Assist newcomers of Tamil origin with settlement and access to social services by collaborating with local government and community organizations. Cultural and Educational Activities Over the years, TCSBC has supported a variety of cultural and educational initiatives including: Tamil language schools and classes originally starting with the Vancouver Tamil School in 1994 and later expanding to other communities such as Surrey, Coquitlam, and North Delta. Cultural events and celebrations that showcase Tamil music, dance, festivals (such as Pongal), and heritage to both Tamil-Canadians and the wider public.
