Tamilagam Quebec - தமிழகம் கியூபெக் Tamilagam Quebec – Preserving Tamil Culture in Quebec Tamil communities are spread across the globe, carrying with them a rich cultural and linguistic heritage. Tamil immigration to Canada began in the early 1960s, and today, Canada is home to one of the largest Tamil populations outside South Asia. While many Tamils reside in Toronto, Ontario, significant and steadily growing Tamil populations can also be found in Quebec, particularly in Montreal. Members of this community represent diverse professions including IT specialists, industrial workers, university professors, and students, contributing actively to Canadian society while maintaining their cultural identity. Tamilagam Quebec (TQ) is a non-profit, non-partisan community organization dedicated to preserving and promoting Tamil cultural values, particularly among Tamils from Tamil Nadu, India, living in Quebec. Established in 2003, Tamilagam Quebec is a registered non-profit organization that has played a vital role in strengthening cultural connections and community engagement among Tamil-speaking people in the province. Tamilagam Quebec organizes a variety of cultural and community events throughout the year. Some of its signature events include Deepavali celebrations, Tamil New Year festivities, summer family picnics, and community potluck gatherings. These events not only bring families together but also provide valuable platforms for the younger generation to showcase their talents in music, dance, drama, and other performing arts. Beyond cultural celebrations, TQ serves as an important forum for social and cultural interaction among Tamil-speaking residents of Montreal and surrounding regions. The organization strongly emphasizes the promotion of Tamil language, literature, fine arts, and performing arts. Through its initiatives, Tamilagam Quebec fosters goodwill, cultural appreciation, and mutual understanding among people of all backgrounds, regardless of race
