It serves as the Canadian chapter of the alumni network for one of Jaffna’s most historic girls’ schools, carrying forward the bonds and traditions fostered during their school years. Background of the School Holy Family Convent, Jaffna is a celebrated Catholic national school for girls in northern Sri Lanka, originally established in 1845 and managed by the Sisters of the Holy Family since 1862. The school has a long legacy of academic excellence, strong values, and spiritual formation. Formation and History The Canadian alumni association was founded in May 1989 , initially known as the JHFC Old Girls Association before evolving into its current form. The first inaugural meeting was held in the basement of the Maria Goretti R.C. Church in Scarborough, Ontario. Founding leaders such as Mrs. Teresa Alexander and Mrs. Lynette Ratnasingham were instrumental in establishing the association, serving respectively as the first President and Vice President. Purpose and Activities Community and Fellowship: The association’s core mission is to maintain and strengthen the fellowship among former pupils now living in Canada, helping them stay connected to one another and to their alma mater. Cultural and Social Events: They organize social events such as dinners, dance evenings, and gatherings that celebrate shared memories and cultural heritage. For example, the “Retro Rhythm Dinner Dance 2024” was one of the recent community events hosted by the association.
